NAIDOC Week activities a success

The Town of Claremont's NAIDOC Week activities brought together children, families and adults to celebrate and learn about Aboriginal culture. 

From 5-12 July, nearly 80 people attended the program at the Bay View Community Centre. 

The program included a children's story time with Djinang Bonar: Seeing Seasons author Ebony Froome, a paper bark painting workshop, an Aboriginal art workshop led by Deborah Bonar and a weaving workshop presented by Priscilla Morrison from Kankuji Designs and Nyikina Elder Coral Foley. 

Town of Claremont Mayor Peter Telford said NAIDOC Week had brought people of all ages together to celebrate, learn and connect through Aboriginal culture. 

"It was wonderful to see children, families and adults come together to embrace our NAIDOC Week program and learn more about the world's oldest continuing culture," Mayor Telford said. 

"Through storytelling, art and hands-on workshops, participants gained a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal culture, history and traditions, while learning directly from the artists and cultural educators who so generously shared their knowledge and experiences. 

"These events help build understanding, respect and connection across our community, and I thank everyone who contributed to making this year's NAIDOC Week such a success."
