As its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 28 April 2026, the Town of Claremont resolved to undertake a review of its local laws in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995.

At its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 28 April 2026, the Town of Claremont resolved to undertake a review of the following local laws in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995

  • Activities on Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law 2003

This local law provides for the regulation and control of hawkers, stall holders and traders in public places within the district.

  • Health Local Laws 1997

The purpose of this local law is to provide a statutory means of effectively controlling issues which have potential to adversely impact on the health and wellbeing of the community.

  • Local Government Property Local Law 2000

The purpose of this local law is to control the use of local government property.

  • Meeting Procedures Local Law 2018

The purpose of this local law is to provide a set of procedures to assist in the good conduct of meetings of the Council, of Committees and electors.

  • Parking Local Law 2016

To regulate parking of vehicles within the Town of Claremont and provide for management and operation of parking facilities under the control of the Town. This repeals Parking Local Law 2012.

  • Signs Local Law 2000

The purpose of this local law is to provide for the regulation, control and management of signs within the district.

  • Site Erosion and Sand Drift Local Law 2016

The purpose of this local law is to provide for the regulation, control and management of site erosion, sand and dust on land within the district so as to protect the amenity of the area.

  • Waste Local Law 2017

The purpose of the local law is to provide for the regulation, control and management of activities and issues relating to waste collection, recycling, reuse and disposal within the district of the Town of Claremont.

Local laws play an important role in the governance of the district by addressing community needs, supporting public safety, and guiding the use and enjoyment of public spaces. As part of good governance practice, the Town is committed to ensuring its local laws remain current, effective, and aligned with legislative requirements. 

The review will consider existing local laws to determine whether they should be retained, amended, or repealed. Where appropriate, new local laws may also be proposed.

The Town invites submissions from the community on the local law review. 

Submissions should:

  • Be made in writing
  • Include your name and address
  • Clearly outline your comments or suggestions

Submissions close at 5.00pm on Friday 26 June 2026. 

Following the close of the consultation period, a report will be provided to Council for them to consider all community feedback and make a determination in respect of each local law.
