Two new representatives were elected to Claremont Council on Saturday evening, with Shelley Hatton elected to the East Ward and Ryan Brown elected to the West Ward (2 year term).

Sara Franklyn was re-elected to the West Ward.

Mayor Jock Barker and Councillors Jill Goetze and Paul Kelly were elected unopposed at the close of nominations.

Mayor Jock Barker said he looked forward to the contributions of the newly elected representatives following a swearing in ceremony on Monday 18 October at 6pm.

“Claremont Council has a well-earned reputation for excellence in local government and I look forward to the contributions of Shelley and Ryan. It’s also pleasing that Sara was re-elected to the West Ward so she can continue with the excellent work she has already untaken while on Council. I congratulate them all on being elected by their constituents.

“I’d also like to acknowledge the work of outgoing Councillors Cr Bruce Haynes and Cr Peter Browne, who are retiring after 30 years of combined service to the Town.”

The 10 elected members of the Town of Claremont Council include Mayor Jock Barker, Cr Sara Franklyn (West Ward), Cr Peter Edwards (East Ward), Cr Jill Goetze (South Ward), Cr Peter Telford (West Ward), Cr Kate Main (East Ward), Cr Annette Suann (South Ward) and Cr Paul Kelly (South Ward) –as well as the two newly-elected members, Shelley Hatton (East Ward) and Ryan Brown (West Ward). The Town is divided into three wards with three councillors representing each ward.

Claremont Council was recently praised as “highly functional” by Daniel Caddy, Member of the Legislative Council for the North Metropolitan Region.
