The Town would like to acknowledge the passing of Mr John 'Buzz' Parkinson.

Buzz, as he was affectionately called, has been a long time Claremont resident and respected member of our community. He took great pride in being the MC for many of the Town's Anzac Day ceremonies, ensuring great care was taken in delivering this significant ceremony.

A champion on the football field, he played 156 games for the Claremont Tigers, kicking 238 goals and playing the 1964 premiership team. In 1967 he tied to win best and fairest for the Sandover Medal and in 1971 was selected to join the VFL side Collingwood, however after three games his career was impacted by injuries.

Mayor Jock Barker said, "Buzz was one of the finest men I know, a local legend in Claremont. He regularly supported his community through volunteer and charity work. I will miss him dearly."

Our thoughts are with Buzz's wife Wendy-Ann and their family.
