Mayor Jock Barker said no matter how small, every step taken to reduce plastic and single use items is crucial.
"Plastic Free July is the ideal opportunity to highlight the actions that we can all do to reduce our use," Mayor Barker said.
"Actions and initiatives such as using reusable tote bags help contribute to the bigger picture of reducing the reliance on any single product.
"Single use plastic is damaging for the environment as it goes straight to landfill most of the time or ends up in our waterways endangering native flora and fauna," Mayor Barker added.
Beginning in Australia in 2011, Plastic Free July has been adopted worldwide as a way to avoid single-use plastics and plastic waste.
It's one of the most influential environmental campaigns across the globe with millions of people taking part every year.
According to the World Wild Fund for Nature, more than eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in the Earth's oceans every year and it's now more important than ever to phase out single-use plastics.
From 1 -30 June, Claremont Town Centre businesses wanting to take part can express their interest in receiving these sustainable bags for their customers use.
The bags are free with any purchase made from participating retailers.
The timeless designs of the tote bags make it perfect for everyday use, not just for Plastic Free July.
Interested businesses wanting to take part can contact the Town on 9285 4300 or email ctc@claremont.wa.gov.au by 30 June.
