Information for Candidates
Prior to nominating candidates are required to complete the Induction for Prospective Candidates through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Please click here to access the Department’s website. You will be asked to declare that you have completed the induction when you submit your candidate nomination form.
Nominations open 44 days prior to the holding of a Local Government Ordinary Election and close at 4.00pm on the 37th day before the Election. Nominations are to be finalised and lodged in person with the Town’s Returning Officer at a pre-arranged appointment before the close of nominations.
An effective nomination consists of the following:
- A completed nomination form which is available from the Returning Officer or the Western Australian Electoral Commission;
- A profile of the candidate of not more than 800 characters (including spaces);
- A nomination deposit of $80.00 in the form of cash, bank cheque or money order; and
- A photograph (optional).
Before nominating, potential candidates should familiarise themselves with the information for candidates available on the Western Australian Electoral Commission’s website regarding eligibility, nomination and disclosure of gifts requirements.
The documents may be hand delivered or posted to the Returning Officer and must be received by the close of nominations. Candidates are encouraged to make an appointment with the Town’s Returning Officer well before nominations close to discuss nominations. The Town’s Returning Officer will be available at the Town of Claremont Administration Building for appointments during the nomination period.
