A 5km running course around Lake Claremont is the newest addition to the worldwide community fitness phenomenon, parkrun.

parkruns are free, weekly community events held each Saturday morning at over 400 locations around the world.

Held each Saturday morning, the 5km course is open to participants of all skill levels as well as furry friends.
parkrun Ambassador Tom Rayner says the events thrive on community engagement and is built on the support of locals.

“parkrun wouldn’t be possible with the amazing community of runners, walkers and volunteers who put so much energy into making it a fun event,” Mr Rayner said. “If parkrun can get just a few more local people active, we will have achieved our goal.”

The events run solely on volunteer support, with initial startup costs supported by the Town of Claremont through its Community Funding Program.

Mayor Jock Barker said the Town was thrilled to support the weekly event to help grow community spirit whilst promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“We are proud to support such a fantastic organisation who makes exercise accessible and inclusive for all ages and abilities,” Mayor Barker said. “What better way to enjoy your Saturday morning than with a walk or run around our stunning lake and some community comradery.”

Claremont’s first parkrun event will take place on 23 April 2022 with participants welcome to meet at the goal posts off Elliott Road for an 8am start.
