Claremont has an incredibly generous volunteer community and the Town is celebrating the people that are making a big difference.

2020 Youth Volunteer of the Year Ahren Mahesh was in year 3 when he won the award. Inspired by his Environment Club teacher at Scotch College, Madame Vinton, Ahren still eagerly participates in his school’s Environmental Club and recycling programmes and helps educate his peers on the importance of recycling.
“Winning the award means that the time I put towards the community is recognised and appreciated. It motivates me to do more in the future. I love the fact that I volunteer to engage in recycling and increasing greenery around my school. Watching plants grow healthy makes me happy!” said Ahren.

Mayor Jock Barker said volunteers were vital to the wellbeing of the community. “I’m very proud of the exceptional volunteers we have in our Claremont community who continually donate their time for the benefit of others. We’d like to recognise the groups and individuals who go above and beyond, truly demonstrating the Claremont spirit.” said Mayor Barker.

2020 Volunteer of the Year, Pat Coffey generously volunteers more than 25 hours a week at the Claremont Football Club throughout the year. His peers regard him as an essential asset to the club, especially in recent times. Claremont Football Club CEO Darcy Coffey is very appreciative of Pat’s assistance at the club. “As a not-for- profit organisation, we rely heavily on the goodwill and contribution of many volunteers. Pat is one of those genuine volunteers that makes a significant contribution to our club and in turn the greater community. His value to our club is immeasurable.” Mr Darcy said.
The awards are open to teams and individuals who have given tirelessly to the community, with prize money donated to the winner’s community group, charity or school. Categories include Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer Team of the Year, with a $1000 prize, as well as Senior Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year, both winning $500 respectively.

Online nominations are open now until 5pm Friday 20 August 2021.
