The Town received a total of 12 candidates for Council for the five vacancies - Mayor, 1 Councillor for both East and West Wards and 2 Councillors for South Ward.

These are also displayed on the notice board at the front of the Town's Administration Centre Candidates are presented in the order that they will appear on the ballot papers.
The Town's elections are conducted as postal elections by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. The Commission appoints a Returning Officer who oversees the elections, including taking candidate nominations and supervising the count on election night.
Election packages will be posted to all electors on the Town of Claremont electoral roll commencing on Wednesday, 27 September 2017. Every person on the electoral roll will be issued a ballot by mail. All electors are required to complete the ballot and return either by mail before the election day or they can be handed into the Council Administration Office at 308 Stirling Highway Claremont, by 6.00pm on election day.
The count commences at 6.00pm on election day and the results are usually available later that night.
