Join special guest John Viska, President of the Garden History Society (WA), and the Freshwater Bay Museum for a fascinating talk about the historic Osborne Hotel gardens.
The Osborne Hotel, Claremont, opened in 1895 and had eight acres of landscaped grounds including grass tennis courts, fernery, fountains and numerous garden beds. Today there is no evidence of the extensive gardens and plantings.
John is a garden horticulturalist, author and Chairman of the Australian Garden History Society (WA) and has spent many years researching historic private and public gardens around Claremont, and Western Australia. His illustrated presentation will cover the development of the Osborne's grounds and what made it so attractive to West Australians in the late 1800s.
