Jazz in the Park

The cool sounds of Jazz resonated through Claremont Park on Saturday afternoon 10 May as almost 400 people, including families, youth and the young at heart, relaxed back on the grass under the shade of the beautiful park trees, enjoying Jazz in the Park and the beautiful Mother's Day weather.

The Swing Shift Big Band, featuring a number of experienced and talented musicians, projected the sweet sounds of Jazz out for all across the park for two great sets. Following this, the audience was treated to the wonderful sounds of the Methodist Ladies College Barbershop and Petit Fours Quartet and the Christ Church Grammar School (CCGS) Jazz Combo, while the Claremont-Nedlands Lions Club put on a delicious sausage sizzle.

The event is an opportunity for young musicians to perform at a live venue, showcase their talent and aims to create a more vibrant community in the Town of Claremont.

2008 National Tree Day Ceremony

The Town of Claremont Youth Advisory Council (YAC) organised a tree planting ceremony for National Tree Day. The ceremony took place at Mrs Herberts Park on Saturday 26 July, 2008 and was attended by the Mayor Peter Olson, and Arthur Kyron, Chief Executive Officer. National Tree Day is held annually on the last Sunday in July. It is considered Australia's largest community tree planting event.

Members of the Claremont YAC planted a rare Wollemi Pine and unveiled a plaque on behalf of the youth of Claremont. The Wollemi Pine is considered to be the oldest and rarest tree in the world, with less then 100 mature trees currently existing. The pine is exclusively found in the Blue Mountains and was only discovered fourteen years ago.

This national event is a fantastic initiative recognising the youth of Claremont and their support of a more sustainable environment for the future.

2008 YAC Halloween Party

With its stained glass windows and peaked ceiling, the Claremont Town Hall was the perfect venue for the creepy party put on by the Claremont Youth Advisory Council on Saturday November 1 to celebrate Halloween. Costumed party goers who came to the event, enjoyed a fantastic evening of dancing, games and prize giveaways. Two sessions were held, one for primary students followed by one for senior school students and both were a success. Thanks must go to the Town of Claremont Youth Advisory Council and the City of Nedlands Youth advisory Council who contributed their time and effort to organising the successful evening.
