Town Hall

The Claremont Town Hall

TOWN HALL LOCATION

The Claremont Town Hall is situated at 327 Stirling Highway (near Hungry Jacks) and consists of a Main Hall, Lesser Hall, kitchen and stage.

TOWN HALL HERITAGE

The main hall of this building was formerly the Wesley Church, built by Singleton and Pitman, and opened in 1922.  It was purchased by the Town of Claremont in 1981 and then renovated and extended.

The first recorded use of the name ‘Claremont’ was on 5 May 1883 and to celebrate the centenary of that event, the Town Hall was officially opened by his excellency Rear Admiral Sir Richard Trowbridge K.C.V.O.L.K., St. J., on 6 May 1983 in the presence of his worship the Mayor of Claremont, Mr B.H. Houston JP and 150 guests representing organisations and people of the community.

FACILITIES TO HIRE

The halls may be hired as separate venues or, if required, the entire complex may be hired. Access to the kitchen is included with the hire but you will need to provide your own cutlery, crockery and drinkware. The kitchen’s facilities consist of a refrigerator, standard household size oven and stove and a large hot water urn.

Both the halls are available for permanent hire for the purpose of conducting classes (eg dancing), seminars and meetings, although permanent hire is normally restricted to Mondays to Thursdays. Each application will be dealt with on its merits and availability of the premises.

The Main Hall holds approximately 200 people, although functions involving seating will only hold 160 comfortably.  The Main Hall measures approximately 15m by 12m and has a timber floor that is excellent for dance activities.  The Lesser Hall, which is more suited for meetings and seminars, holds up to 60 people and measures approximately 11m by 6m. The complex is provided with 140 stackable chairs but does not have any tables. A piano is available for hire and may be used in either hall.

The complex, including toilets, provides for wheelchair access.
