Recycling

Recycling Information. Click to Enlarge Council provides a 240 litre yellow top recycling bin for the collection of recyclables. Your recycling bin will be collected fortnightly on the same day as your normal rubbish collection day. For information on items that can be recycled click here.
Please do not place any materials in the recycling bin other than those specified on the sticker located under the lid.

The recycling contractor will empty your yellow top recycling bin from the kerbside each fortnight on the same day as your normal rubbish collection day. Residents may request an extra recycling bin and this will be provided free of charge.

Recycling weeks are highlighted on the Fortnightly Recycling Collection Calendar .

COMPOSTING

Residents are encouraged to compost organic waste (food scraps and garden waste etc) where possible.  Home composting is a great way to produce your own fertilizer, whilst at the same time reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Compost bins are available from most hardware stores and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Materials suitable for composting include:

  • Vegetable and fruit scraps.
  • Eggshells
  • Tea leaves/bags
  • Vacuum dust
  • Leaves and weeds
  • Lawn clippings

Benefits of Composting

Composting adds vital nutrients to the soil, encourages earthworms and, when spread on the garden, it acts as mulch, insulating the soil and preventing evaporation.

By recycling your greenwaste (lawn clippings, leaves, weeds, etc) and organic waste (vegetable peelings, tea leaves, coffee grounds, etc), by turning them into compost, you will be reducing the waste going to landfill and caring from the environment.
