The Town exercises its local laws to control parking in Claremont. These local laws contain similar restrictions to those in the Road Traffic Act. Consideration is also given to aesthetic, safety and environmental issues. Nobody likes to get a parking infringement notice, but without parking control many of Claremont’s facilities would be denied to the public. Parking in Claremont is free, as long as parking restrictions are observed.
PARKING STATIONSThe Town of Claremont has multiple parking stations. Streets in the Claremont Town Center are also considered parking stations, such as parallel parking on Bay View Terrace and St Quintens Ave. These stations all have different different time restrictions, so please check these before deciding where to park
CLEARWAYSClearways must be kept clear, as indicated on the signs, all year round and not just during the school term. Penalties apply for obstruction CYCLEWAYSIn Victoria Avenue, the cycleway is on the road. Do not park on the south side between 7.30am and 9.00am, or on the north side between 3.00pm and 4.30pm. Penalties apply for obstruction IMPOUNDED VEHICLESVehicles that have been abandoned (left in a public place or on local government property for longer than 24 hours) are subject to removal and impounding by the Rangers. Should you encounter an abandoned vehicle please contact the Rangers on (08) 9285 4300. All attempts will be made to contact the owner within the 24 hour period. After this time the vehicle will be stored at the Town’s impounding facility. If the vehicle is not claimed within 60 days the vehicle may be sold by public tender or disposed of by other means. Vehicles that are detected causing an undue obstruction in a public place or on local government property may be removed and impounded by the Rangers. To access the Town’s Parking & Parking Facilities Local Law click here. Payment of Parking InfringementsCouncil allows 28 days from the date of issuing a Parking Infringement for payment of the penalty. Payment may be made in the following manner:
Please enclose the infringement notice with your remittance. Should you misplace the notice, please provide details of the infringement number or, at the very least, your vehicle’s registration number. Council can accept only infringements issued by the Town of Claremont. Parking infringements that are not paid by the due date may incur additional costs. Unpaid infringements are eventually lodged with the Fines Enforcement Registry, after which your driver’s licence or vehicle licence may be suspended. Disputing a Parking InfringementCouncil requires that all disputes to be lodged in writing. The best way is in the form of a letter. The letter should state:
Please address letters to The Chief Executive Officer, Town of Claremont, P O Box 54, Claremont WA 6910 LOADING ZONESLoading zones are clearly marked as such and are restricted to commercially licensed vehicles which are being loaded or unloaded with goods. All loading zones have time restrictions of 30 minutes. SCHOOLSParticular cooperation is requested when parking at adjoining schools. Please use set down and pick up areas when possible. TOWN CENTREPlease observe all signs and enjoy the FREE PARKING that is provided for shopping in Claremont. While parking is free within the town centre, time restrictions do apply. Unrestricted ParkingThere is totally unrestricted parking north of the railway line, except during the week of the Royal Show or other functions at the Show Grounds. If you wish to spend longer than three hours in the Town Centre, please use this area. It is accessible from Shenton Road by car and is a short walk through the mazes to Bay View Terrace (near Leura Avenue and the Post Office). VERGESNo vehicle may park or drive on a street verge without the consent of the occupier of the property abutting that verge, if it is maintained by the occupier. No resident has, however, any right to demand a fee for verge parking. RANGER SERVICESThe Town’s Ranger can be contacted on the following: Business Hours (08) 9285 4300 The Town of Claremont provides an after hours service for residents who need to contact a Ranger on urgent matters after normal business hours. |
