ELECTED MEMBERSThe Town of Claremont Council is made up of 10 Elected Members, being one Mayor and nine Councillors. Each member is generally elected for a four year term. Each ward is represented by three Councillors (East, West and South). State legislation provides for a Council to decide whether its Mayor is elected by the vote of the ratepayers and residents or by the Councillors themselves, who would elect one of them as the Mayor. The Town of Claremont has chosen to have its Mayor elected by its residents and ratepayers. This method is commonly known as ‘popular vote’. Current members of the Claremont Council are: |

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS Elections for all local Councils are held biennially on the third Saturday in October, the last being held in 2007. The Mayor and Councillors are elected for four year terms, with half of the Councillor’s terms concluding at each biennial election. Voting in local government elections is voluntary however all ratepayers are encouraged to support their local representatives and vote to have a say in the way their local Council is run.
